Meaning behind the name

Several people, on LJ but mostly off, have asked me what Soëlie's name means. So, here it is, plus a photo, because all things baby are better with a photo, no?  OK, maybe not for everyone; humor me.

"Soëlie" is a roundabout derivative of "Zoe," which is Greek for "life."

In France, Zoél, Zoelle, and Zoélie are all more common (but I've never met or heard of one), but I have a preference for the softer S sound and I do love me a diaeresis (¨).

And, as for "Anne," according to Behind the Name, it is a form of Anna, which comes from Hannah: From the Hebrew name חַנָּה (Channah) which meant "favour" or "grace".

That's a wonderful picture--almost all browns but with a hint of pink, and the contrast between her lively expression and the blank stuffed dog face. It has depth and texture too. Love it!

Thanks! I actually felt bad after asking because so many people made-up names that just sound pretty and don't mean anything, and when I express my opinion that that's a shame and kind of silly when there are so many beautiful and meaningful names in the world, people get all offended. So I thought maybe I had implied that it was *supposed* to mean something when it didn't. Or something.

...Scriptwriting. Don't do it. (Unless you're, you know, a playwright. :P)
