We have lift off

Maji ya ujaya kayaendrelewa mbiyo.

On ne court pas après la marée montante.
(You have to know how to wait.)

Monsieur et Madame Faure will be leaving the fair land of France for the hot and humid isle(s) of Mayotte on August 15th, and they will thereupon pay an exorbitant rent for an apartment on Dzaoudzi, tan, snorkel, dive, feed lemurs from their balcony, gorge themselves on tropical fruit, bathe in essence of ylang-ylang, learn Shimaore, give daily thanks for the invention of AC, save poor geckos from their ravening cats, and battle the moustique tigre to keep from getting chikungunya fever.

Monsieur will do his best to help uphold law and order, and Madame will (if things go according to plan) do her best to inflict her native language on the young prisoners of national education when she is not writing, exploring, or mermaiding.

Baãda dhiki faradji.

Après les difficultés, le bonheur.
(after difficulites, happiness)

You'd not believe how envious reading this made me.
Bloody happy for ya, ma'am. :-)

It was the part about humidity and mosquitos that made you envious, wasn't it? Maybe "exorbitant rent"? ;-)

Honestly -- feeding lemurs. :-) So much cooler than the squirrels I have.

Yeah, I can't wait to see how our cats react to them. They look to be about the same size, and our cats let a local tom bully them, so I don't really see them attacking an animal of the same size. It will be interesting. Mayotte doesn't have the prettiest species, but I'm looking forward to living with them nonetheless.

Thanks, PJ. *joins the conga rats*

Congratulations to Madame et Monsieur, but methinks we in LJ-land will be feeling your loss rather keenly.

Never so weary, never so in woe ...

Ah, but the beauty of LJ-land is that it is accessible anywhere there is Internet, and Mayotte, though the connections be primitive, is "branché" (we correspond regularly by email with a cousin and colleague there) so we'll still be in touch. :)

hehehehe...

You do know that posting pictures on LJ is obligatory, right?

Wellll, J is having fun looking at cameras, so that shouldn't be a prob.

Does twirling jig of happiness

This is the news I was so hoping for. You know I said I was certain this would happen--I felt it in my bones--but there was always a niggle of doubt with those odd police customs. I'm thrilled this is finally a reality. And you know, Mayotte and Africa, Madagascar all interest me far more than France ever did as a place to visit. Not that I've got anything against France, just that it has never been a place high on my list of places to visit - dunno why - and having said that I know I would have found lots to interest me there, especially since that's where you are/were and the reason to go. Now when I come to visit next year after you are settled, I will appreciate the new destination. Must be because it was all part of Gondwanaland, of which I am so fond hehe. Congratulations on the great news!

I can't wait to see you no matter where it is, France or Mayotte!
