Mtiti & Mtsongoma

Mtiti & Mtsongoma

An island always pleases my imagination, even the smallest, as a small continent and integral portion of the globe. I have a fancy for building my hut on one. Even a bare, grassy isle, which I can see entirely over at a glance, has some undefined and mysterious charm for me. ~Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Mayotte actually consists of several islands (27, if you count "Les Quatre Frères" separately), only two of which of are inhabitable: Grande Terre and Petite Terre (where we live). The two islets in the photograph, Mtiti and Mtsongoma, are located off the north eastern shore of Grande Terre (otherwise known as "Mahoré," but no one calls it that; Petite Terre is also named "Pamanzi," but again, every says PT).

The snorkeling around these islets is superb. Btw, the colors haven't been retouched; I took the photo through the "filter" of my sunglasses.
