It wasn't only meetings with online friends that was on the agenda for Oz; we also spent time on the Sunshine Coast with friends that we haven't seen in five years, Dom and Jill.  And we got to meet their kiddos, S and L, for the first time.

Dom and Jill were great hosts and we had a blast with them, despite the sun making itself rare on its namesake coast. We didn't have to go any farther than their backyard to see lovely Aussie birds, feeding in flowering in trees.

We got to see kangaroos, too, and even ate roo burgers, which I quite liked. Much, much, much better than llama.

We had a blast bowling, and stunts were de rigeuer.

And the highlight of the trip, The Big PIneapple:

Actually, in many ways, Oz reminded me of what it was to live in Mayotte. No, it isn't filthy, nor is it a small, Islamic island, but the parts we visited have the same humidity, many of the same plants, and even one of my fav buds from Mayotte, the nephile spider:

All in all, a very nice visit and we look forward to coming back for a longer one in some years. And Jill and Dom?  We expect you to be ready for another game of Time's Up.  Julien is looking forward to whipping you soundly again at Balderdash.

Intellectually, I know that it's high summer in the southern hemisphere.

Realistically, we're about to get 24 inches of snow, and the cognitive dissonance is deafening. *g*

Nice spider closeup. The web looks like a soccer goal.

The kangaroos are whetting my appetite for my own Australia tour.

I know exactly what you mean. I kept tripping up every time someone mentions snow and cold. I have to stop and remember that it is winter up top of this planet. :P

Yes, I loved how the wind was making it billow out, even if it was also making it extremely hard to get a focused photo.

The roos were really cute. I just wish we had thought to bring along the camera with the zoom lens.
