Here by Glimpses Known
22 Mar 2008 03:30 pmI've been busy since Wednesday, but I didn't forget this week's glimpse. I almost bumped into this *tiny* critter, and since her web was so close to eye-level, I went back the camera and got several close-ups. I took a measuring tape with me, but unfortunately, I touched the web with it and startled her before I could show you how big she was. Still, I saw with my own little eyes that she measured 12cm.
Golden web Néphile
Doesn't her back make for a freaky totem?
A Noiseless Patient Spider. by Walt Whitman
A NOISELESS, patient spider,
I mark’d, where, on a little promontory, it stood, isolated;
Mark’d how, to explore the vacant, vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself;
Ever unreeling them—ever tirelessly speeding them.
And you, O my Soul, where you stand,
Surrounded, surrounded, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing,—seeking the spheres, to connect them;
Till the bridge you will need, be form’d—till the ductile anchor hold;
Till the gossamer thread you fling, catch somewhere, O my Soul.
