Here by Glimpses Known
23 Apr 2008 02:05 pmHere in Mayotte, we've come across fruits and vegetables that we've never seen or eaten before. One such vegetable is the dodoki, which has the diameter of a small cucumber but grows up to about 2ft long. It can either grow with a slight curve or be spiraled. Julien and I tried it a few weeks ago, and it tasted a bit like very mild boiled squash. These are the flowers of a dodoki vine since I forgot to photograph the vegetable before I cut it up. :P They blossom in the morning, slowly unfurling until until evening comes and all the fringe is straight. Then they curl up again and sleep tight until morning comes to start the cycle again.
