The electricity situation has not, in fact, been sorted.

J understood that the lady who helped Friend-of-Soon-to-be-Neighbor knew about the situation and was able to follow the tangle. Yes, Friend did speak to nice, competent lady, but only after ferrying to Grande Terre and the not-in-the-know people INSISTING that Friend was wrong, had wrong number, and MUST ferry back to Petite Terre and check number, and nowedon'twantohearaboutswitchedlines. You. are. just. plain. wrong! CHECK THE NUMBER!

That's when Friend called back, insisted he had right number, and spoke with nice competent lady. This was Friday. She said she would send a technician. New neighbors are to arrive today. They still have no electricity.

Guess who is jumping out of her computer chair at the sound of every motor in the street?  Yeah, no one's going to cut my juice today!

Last night, [profile] mana_trini and I learned that the soon-to-be neighbors have children. Three of them. Ages 3, 6, and 10. And they are going to live a two-bedroom duplex. Where are they going to put them??? The bedrooms are tiny.

Supposedly, this housing solution is temporary for them, but we know how hard it is to find a good, affordable place here in Mayotte.

Three children. And from the "oh, you don't have children?" comment and accompanying (pitying) look on the Friend's face, we've been given to understand that at least one of them is a terror.

Three.

I could say, "There goes the neighborhood!" but our landlord has four children, one of them a toddler; the across-the-street neighbors have two toddlers; and there are regularly five or so children from toddler to seven-ish at the house on the corner, so it isn't exactly like we lived in silence-lover's paradise before. (We're not even going into catfights, roosters and chickens in the jackfruit tree crowing and clucking up the sun; blaring music; the neighbor's visitors and taxis who think they freaking have to announce their presence by lying on the horn...)  But we were hoping for homebodies who do not: 1) squabble, 2) have children; 3) have a dog(s); or 4) like to entertain.*

Hmmm, sounds like I want neighbors just like us. :P

*I guess we can still hold out hope for 1,3, and 4.
