...on a Monday morning, not a first and certainly not a last.

I spent yesterday with friends that Sprout and I made during her dance classes last year. I taught the moms to make sourdough bread while the girls played, then we all supped on Egyptian moussaka and Indian curry potatoes and Indian bread.* Between all the baking and tidying and visiting, I didn't have the oomph to post last night.

So! This was a good week, overall. I got my Baron Frankenstein** groove on and hacked and stitched until I have a chapter three that pretty much does what I want it to.

Baxente’s slaves set him down beside the hexarch and handed him from his palanquin. He winced and stumbled, having forgotten the blisters he had earned that morning. Ferrexon caught his arm, smiling stiffly as she held Keimul’s gaze and pretended all was well.

Keimul aimed a bright smirk at Baxente, but anger roiled around him, a thunderhead darkening the dazzling air he cultivated. "Immensely unfitting, making a late entrance on this of all days, no?"

Taking strength from Ferrexon, Baxente replied with a noncommittal; "May the Hexad’s blessing shine upon you, Your Sanctity."

A smothered sound from Ferrexon made him realize he had appropriated the hexarch’s traditional greeting for him.

*One mom is Egyptian and the other Indian, and they brought the food so I wouldn't have to cook.

**"Frankenstein" is the name of the game for this chapter. Depressingly, I found an entry about it, dating back to April 14...2013!

Been there, done that. Although I find that once I've revised a piece of text beyond a certain point, it becomes pretty much impossible to find any sense of flow. I think it's because I'm so used to knowing what comes next that I can't sense when things are disjointed. Sometimes I'll chip away at something for days, only to realise with horror later just how awkward it sounds when read for the first time.

Yes, this exactly. I need to set it aside for a while and hope I'll have a bit of freshness when I come back to it. it is a silly trick of the brain, but either changing the font or printing it out (ideally both) helps give me an extra bit of distance. I may try that tack with this one.

I love the notion of round-robin cooking instruction.

And way to go: snippet!

More like mad scientist. :P Surgeon implies more skill and precision than I'm comfortable laying claim to.

Yeah, everyone shared their culinary secrets, so now I'm excited to try out the moussaka and potatoes. :D
