It's a terrible thing the government is attempting to do; I hope they fail.
It is, and that is my sincere hope, too.
One of the things about a socialist society is that the people grow to believe that the institution can and will do better than the individual. In regards to raising children, some people it actually see it as logical that the State is better able than parents/family to assure the well-being and "success" of the next generation. I have had this argument from older people (grandparents versus parents of actual childhood age offspring). It's like they forget what it was like to actually BE a parent. Now they just nod and agree with whatever the gov't says. It is both baffling and horrifying.
