My laptop is officially dead. Yes, I lost material. Yes, I'm upset. Yes, it is my fault. Yes, you should do a back-up right now.

So, mnfaure, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 9% unique
(blame, for example, your interest in trimming toenails)

and 14% nerdlike (translation = stupid)
(partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy doing mindless memes that sap your time and turn your creativity away from writing, but MOSTLY because you didn't back up your files--IDIOT!!!!).

When it comes to friends you are normal, whatever that is supposed to mean.

In terms of the way you relate to people, you are wary of trusting strangers because they like to pick their noses when they think no one is looking--but someone is always looking.

Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is intellectual & devious.

Your overall weirdness is: 39

(The average level of weirdness is: 28.
You are weirder than 78% of other LJers.)

Your weirdness level is beyond measure, I'm sure!

a second life

if you can find a used same model laptop on ebay, you may be able to reuse the hard disk and get every thing back.

also, what is dead? there may be other ways to get your data. feel free to email me the details and I'll brainstorm

Thanks for the offer of help. Strangely enough, while thinking of your "what is dead?" question, I took the battery out and rubbed my finger over the metal plates beneath it. It started right up. I've been having problems with it for over a month now, and normally I'm careful not to save things to it. However, it has lulled me into thinking it was okay (even though I have to mash the top and bottom together while pushing on the start button--faulty contact?) because it has stopped freezing and shutting down arbitrarily and giving me the blue screen of death. Oh, and it hasn't been running a check disk every time I start it.

Yeah, BUT! Later on, I took the battery out, and TA DA! Recovered files! I'll never save another doc/photo/what-have-you to the beastly thing again.

It was a week's worth of notes and brainstorming, but miracle of miracles I got it back.

Oh noes! I'm glad it wasn't a fatal lack-of-backup.
