'bout a kingdom on a mountain and the valley folk below.
On the mountain was a treasure buried deep beneath a stone,
and the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own.

So the people of the valley sent a message up the hill

This song used to make me cry when I was a child. I remember lying on the floor listening to it while my mother cleaned house, and I could just picture this bloodied soldier (who looked rather like the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz) rolling down a hill, crying. Even now as I read it, I get chills all up and down my arms and back and tears cloud my eyes.
