From the first two days in Dubai

Desert rain

Thanks to cloud seeding, Dubai averages 10 days of rain per year now, compared to the 2 days that was the norm a mere seven years back.

Some good deals to be had here, but because I'll be in India next year, I forewent purchasing anything.

When rain wasn't marring the blue skies, sand was. So much for fabulous photos of towering buildings glinting in the sunlight...

Quite a change from Mayotte, huh? ;) You can count on your laundry drying, let me tell you.

In Hebrew we call it a "shuk" :) Arabic in that region doesn't have a "sh" sound, as I understand.

Very much a change. Imagine not sweating, not stinky, not suffering from humidity--even when it was rainy. On the other hand, I now remember what dry skin feels like. :P

I'm not a big fan of heat (I suffer in Israeli summers!), but dry heat is always so much better than humid. Sweating actually WORKS in dry heat!

Very nice pictures...
I love seeing hwo different that whole area is from just a decade or so ago. It's one of those places you can imagine completely disappearing into the desert again once people leave, too.

Yes, the boom has been amazing, hasn't it? Apparently, though, Sheik Mohammed has proclaimed that all building projects have to be completed by 2020.

10 days of rain per year and you manage to catch some of them. That's quite impressive. :P

Great photos, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, we had rain at least 3 times in four days. I think someone was lying. :P

I was looking forward to taking some really nice pics; unfortunately, I don't think I succeeded. :( Some of them are all right, but not what I was hoping for.
