Parenthetical post

I just love when my students act surprised when I tell them I expect to be remunerated for my time when they decide not to come to class without letting me know.

The blasé attitude toward the importance of my time is probably the primary reason I dislike giving freelance English lessons.

Dubai desert photos

Sadly, the promised desert safari was the biggest letdown of the trip. I was sold on the voyage with the idea of going to meet real nomads, in a real setting. What I got was tourist trap with a "strip mall" that made me think of Clines Corners in New Mexico on the road to Albuquerque. In other words, not good. Live and learn and try not to get ripped off next time.

But I did get to see a camel spit out its throat, so I guess all was not lost...
