I have committed book
17 Jul 2010 04:35 pmDraft the First of Witherwilds is complete, right on schedule, at 118K.
How do I feel? Well, I don't know. Accomplished, I guess, but I don't have that high that comes from completing a novel where the story is wrapped up. This is book one of a trilogy, and there is no great and resounding final action that ends the story. It sets up the events of book two. That leaves me with the feeling that all is still open and still to be resolved.
I will not, however, minimize my achievement. So:
HOORAY!
And I've made a decision. Instead of setting the book aside for a mere two weeks, I'm going to let it rest for a month because, really, what's the rush? This means I'll have it ready for betas by Sept 1st.

Date: 19 Jul 2010 04:35 am (UTC)Haha, I can't imagine going from first draft to I'm-ready-for-beta-readers in a month. *g* My first drafts are too horrible to share, and I never end up keeping the first ending I dream up. I think that's why I like the OWW. Let's me go through and wrangle things into submission one chapter at a time.
Are you going to query agents after Book 1 is in order? Or do you need to finish a trilogy before they will consider you? I always think in one-novel-one-story terms, so know very little about how books-spanning gigs work!
