This one is for [livejournal.com profile] clarentine , who seems fond of Queen Anne's Lace. Taken at sunset, along the canal.

The lore behind the name: The plant is named after Queen Anne of England, renowned as an expert lace maker. But one day, she pricked her finger with a needle and a drop of blood fell into the lace, whence comes the deep purple-red bud in the center of the flower, which you can see in the top right photo.

And a bonus close-up:

Ah, well, my good macros = great equipment. I'm sure that has more to do with it than trying harder, though trying and practice can never hurt.

I've been thinking about getting a macro, but I hear lots of people say you need a tripod to hold the camera steady. Do you use one? I love to take flower pictures, but I really don't want to bother with tripods and tings.

hehe. We have a tripod but I hardly ever use it, and I feel like I have the shakiest hands in the West. :P I just make sure my speed is not below 80 and I can get good shots. Maybe (certainly) I could get better with a tripod, but like you, I don't want to tote one around.
