b) Wow, I never see a newborn that genuinely pretty -- usually they take a while to get cute. Is she really already smiling, or is it just the angle on that penultimate picture?

b) hehe. Glad to see someone backing up my very biased opinion. She really is smiling. She has a gamut of expressions and smiles frequently, even when we laugh, but I don't think she has much control over her facial muscles yet. Another thing I've heard is that babies smile when they have gas. :P

Any and all photos of newborns are good. I'm so sad not to have any of myself. Julien is lucky to have had parents who took the time to make a photo album.

Eitan's mom made a whole photo album too, including photos of the birth itself. She said she gave one of the photos to the birthing center to use during their childbirth education courses because you could see the head coming out really clearly. She regretted it when several years later someone came up to her in the supermarket and said, "Hey, you're the lady from that picture they showed me in my childbirth course..." :D

I didn't want cameras or anything in Hallel's birth because I figured they'd throw me out of focus. But I was wondering about it for Raviv's birth because I felt like I kind of missed the whole thing with Hallel. I was high on endorphins to a point of partial amnesia, and I gave birth kneeling so I didn't see him until at least a minute after he was born because the midwife was unwinding the cord from all around him behind me (it felt like forever!). The decision was made for me when the birth occurred on Shabbat (not allowed to use electronic devices that are not essential to the health of mother and baby)... and actually, I felt like I was a lot more present in Raviv's birth. I remember the first moment I saw him very clearly. His big bug eyes. <3

In any case I wouldn't be able to share photos or videos anyway, not being properly covered...

*nods* I didn't particularly want a camera in the birthing room, either. A few hours later is plenty soon enough to immortalize the moment.
