Anyone?

I have a special request.  Would someone be willing to send me some seeds through the mail?  I want to try to grow tomatillos (the basic green variety), chiles (New Mexicans), and jalapeños.  People often ask me if I miss my homeland, and my typical answer is: Not really, but I do miss the vast spaces, the glorious sunsets that are the pay-off for the winds and farm dust in New Mexico, and Mexican food.

I do really miss authentic ingredients. Every year I think about asking someone to send me some seeds, and every year I let it slide, not wanting to put anyone out.

I've probably waited too long already, but I've decided, this year I'll do it, I'll ask.

So, anyone want to help a girl out?

Ack! You should have posted this last month when I was placing my seed order. I remember seeing all of those, and even made a mental note to plant tomatillos next year. If you don't get any this year, remind me to get some next year for you.

You're an angel. I should have taken care of it earlier, but with the trip and all...it just took back burner. :(

Sure, I can do that - the tomatillos and jalapenos ought not to be too difficult, at any rate. Let me take a look and see what's available at the local co-op or, barring that, Lowe's. I'll get back to you this weekend.

Or - hey. These people (http://www.seedsofchange.com/default.aspx) for sure have the seeds. Can you order them and have them shipped to me, and I'll forward them along when they get here? If you think this will be preferable, I'll email you my mailing address.

*sigh* You are so sweet, but sanity has reasserted itself. I really waited too long this year. AND I have nowhere to plant stuff. o.O But someday I will, someday...

Thanks again for offering!

No problem - better planning luck next year. *g* You know, some of the Hungarian peppers are pretty spicy. Maybe you can find one of those that will at least spice up your plate; there must be someone around there who grows Hungarian peppers.

The French aren't big on spicy things, but one can occasionally find peppers from Morocco in the supermarkets. The spiciness is a hit or miss, but it is mostly the flavor and "meatiness" of New Mexican chiles and jalapenos that I miss. I can try to make a chile sauce for my enchiladas, but it is always missing that little extra something. :)

I'd be happy to if you still need someone to send them.

Thanks! Sadly, I've come to my senses and will not be needing the seeds this year. No room to plant properly (horrid exposition in the tiny thing that passes for our yard) and it's too late in the season to hope for a good return on anything. But thank you so much for your generosity!

Did you get enough volunteers because I would be happy to do this for you--any and all seeds. Or anything else you can think of. Do you need any masa?

Thanks for the offer for the seeds, PJ, but like I told Chris and Janice, my sanity has returned. Even if it wasn't late in the season, i still have the problem of where I could possibly plant stuff. :P

But masa, am I dreaming??? You aren't just taunting me, are you???

I would LOVE some masa. I could break out my tortilla press from its long hiatus. HOWEVER! I may be going to a wedding the first week in June in Minneapolis. If that is the case, I could just stock up my bag with it. I should decide very soon if I"m going or not, so I'll keep you posted. And I'll find out if they can get such good stuff up in the uneducated North... :P I'm only partially joking because I think I asked my Minnesota friend for it once, and she couldn't find any.

*hugs*

I could always mail it to your Minnesota friend, too. Are there "import" restrictions mailing it to France?

No, no restrictions. Just might be a wee bit costly due to the weight.
