Just because you don't happen to share someone's faith that doesn't give you the right to vandalize their place of worship. A little bit of respect would not go amiss, especially when you are in your thirties and should be past the age of such idiotic, senseless, intolerant actions.

PS Thanks for ruining the calming effect I was going for with my nightly yoga routine.

I was doing yoga in my living room when I heard talking and giggling outside. No big deal except I live next to the Protestant Church here in Sancerre and the poster for an expo they are having on faith in modern times has already been defaced. I got up and looked out the window and saw three very well-dressed adults standing there with wineglasses in their hands, so I thought that they were just walking around and reading. I turned to go back to my yoga when I heard that spluttering we're-just-so-funny kind of laughter. So, I leaned farther out and saw that one of the women had a marker in her hand and was writing on the poster. I proceeded to tell them that it was very nice of them and asked if it was them who had done it the first time. One of them said very snottily, "What first time?" "The time before this one," said I. "Yes," she replied with a smirk. Well, I left the window and they wandered off. I'm sure they live right next to the church, too, and think it is funny after a dinner with their friends to go mock some else's beliefs with their snide little remarks. I, however, do not share their opinion of a good time.

Holy god. That's just pathetic. I mean, one can argue the appropriateness of making jokes about other faiths and such, but to actually write on a poster with a marker? I honestly thought that stopped being funny I the fifth grade.

Then again, these are the folks who love Jerry Lewis...

Yeah, I was just astounded that it was adults, which is why, when I first saw them, I turned away.

I guess some of us mature more quickly than others. Some people never grow up in such matters, and some never develop a sense of appropriateness, much less couth.

And yet i can just imagine them thinking how sophisticated they are, since they had wine glasses and all. Because really, that's the true mark of sophistication... as opposed to actual maturity.
