A couple of weeks ago I was putting some dinosaur videos on for Sprout and came across the We Might Be Giant's song "I'm a Paleontologist" Given the cartoon aspect of it, I thought Sprout would enjoy it, but halfway through she said, "I don't want this song. It's boring. It only talks about the bones. I want them to talk about the skin!"

Then, a few days ago, a conversation about different kinds of ceratopsians led us to a list of 10 Spectacular Horned Dinosaurs. If you click the link, you'll see that the first image is a fossil.

Sprout: Oh, no! Just the bones again! I only like them when there is skin! :P

That song is so cute ("pachycephalosaurus???")--I love They Might Be Giants!

Sprout is lucky because these days--unlike the olden days--they think the skin might have been bright and beautiful--and maybe covered with feathers. (Does she like feathers?)

Yeah, I was enjoying the song and didn't really want to turn it off, but the will of a three-year-old... :P

I used to listen to "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" on loop when I was at uni. I always preferred Constantinople, like I prefer Persia to Iraq. :P

I love the new theories about the colors and frills and feathers. Sadly, a lot of what we have seen is still older-style conceptions because of when it was made and because, apparently, some people have a hard time accepting that their favorite, ferocious predator the T-Rex might have been feathered or quilled. :P

Wow, there are some very spectacular faces there. Sprout has a good point about the skin.

Yeah, some dinosaurs were really impressive. I find myself being more interested in and fascinated by them now, through Sprout's interest, than when I was a kid. I remember thinking stegosauruses were cool and triceratops were all right, but I don't remember much else. I did retain the name "brontosaurus" but apparently it is no longer an acceptable appellation. :P
