A couple of years back, I got an idea for a picture book.  Because I had so much else going on and because I lacked a clear plan for the stucture/presentation, I shelved the idea after making note of it.

Since I don't seem to have my novel-writing brain cells (desire) back yet, I decided to dust off the picture book idea and illustrate it as one of my creative goals for this year.  That's what I've been doing this past week.  I don't feel comfortable sharing them, though, so just a verbal report from me until I do something else. :)

Who else is trying to get off to a creative start at the beginning of this new year?

No, not the donkey one. This one is more of a concept book, rather than a story book. The illustrations pretty much have to carry it, which is what makes it so daunting. That "sellable" style that must captivate and enchant, oh how hard to cultivate. :P

Great idea for something to scratch the creative itch while the novel-writing brain cells come back on line!

Me, I'm pushing hard on the first rewrite of my novel about the coal miners' sons and the snake who wants to tear their world apart. I'm hopeful it will be commercial enough to catch someone's eye, because there's two more behind this one and I'd like a reason to see those in more than draft form. Running down to the final confrontation now….

Oh how I envy those of you who are writing. Sometimes I feel my urge will never come back. And then, like today, I think a little bit about an unfinished story, and my brain tosses me a tidbit, not enough to coax me back into it but enough to give me hope.

Maybe you could be stockpiling images, if that's how your brain works, for when you do get the urge to write something? That's how stories come to me, mostly, in images I then have to explore so I can understand them.
