ok, rant erased because I really don't feel like rehashing everything.

Moving on.

I did another small painting on the toned paper with a red underpainting, going for a more illustrative style.  It was not really a success. :P.  I wanted to paint our sad little lemon tree during a thunderstorm without worrying overly much about anything like perspective, etc.  Raindrops were falling all over the painting, and I was quite cold by the end of it.  I will try to salvage it, perhaps, with ink because colored pencils didn't do much.  In any case, I did art, and that counts for something.  Again I tried to photograph it and my phone just refuses to focus.  I have no idea how to fix it.  So annoying.

Also, been hearing about the cholera there. How are things looking for fixing your water situation? I really don't want you guys to get cholera!!

yeah, sometimes, "getting it out of your system" does not translate to putting it out there for everyone. :P

From what I understand, the one leak that I filmed was not the only problem with the evacuation pipe. B said they have to change the pipe for the whole building, which I am not sure if that entails one pipe or several. In any case, it is not yet repaired, but they have collected money from everyone to fix the problem. We have been smelling sewage, especially in the lobby area, for a couple of weeks, and now I guess I know why. :-/.

What continues to boggle my mind is that others were aware of the problem, and nothing was done until we protested. The "happy to live with it until it completely collapses" mentality is beyond me on one level, but I guess inertia is a powerful force. And it takes a lot to get people to pull out their pocketbooks unless the need is really dire (true most of the time, even more so in a country in crisis).

I'm still shaking my head about the crisis, you know? I know it's been this way for multiple years, and I know that, for instance, in my young adulthood it was in a bad way--but there was a period in the middle where things seemed to be getting better. But now they're not again.

Your analysis about inertia seems absolutely right to me :-\
