Artful Prompting, 3

Our third foray into art prompts resulted in "Elder Son" and "Utensils."  Oooookay.  How odd to have gotten two family members in a row.  So, some of us chose to draw utensils and some chose to draw with utensils.

This one is from Elder Son who did NOT have to draw himself (I just love the earrings):

Daughter's take on her brother with utensils.  Elder Son must be hungry:

 

Husband's (he used: a skewer, a bottle cork, a pastry brush, a fork, a sponge, and his fingers): 

I tried a couple, the first (blue background) was done with a pastry brush, sponge, gloved fingers, and a bamboo skewer.  The second was done with a sponge and a plastic fork:

The likeness is not there, but hey, one can't be hard on oneself when painting with a plastic fork.🤣  And that made this a very liberating experience.  However, my boy has the most beautiful mouth, and I really hated that I couldn't capture it.  

While watching YouTube videos about mark-making, I came across an artist, Sandi Hester, who is really fun and whose work I will watch more as I delve into the illustrative side of what I want to do.  The kids are also enjoying her, and Daughter's blue outline came about from a video of Sandi's.  We have done many faces since watching that.

It was fun to do. Very liberating to use tools that "excuse" you from perfection. ;)

I went to check out the woman's videos, but I'll have to save them for sometime when I'm ironing or something and can have them on in the background.

I really liked the "what if" of it all, but I confess to wanting a better system for doing portraiture (and I have another post about that coming up), even if it is to work even bigger in order to achieve just a bit more control if getting a likeness is high on the list. :P

I have been binge-watching Sandi's channel and have been creating more than I think I have have before because her approach is very liberating for a product-oriented artist like myself. I am looking for joy of process now!

Bravo! These are great interpretations and I love the instruments used to create them.

One of my favorite art projects with my dad, were when we would don aprons and fingerpaint with tempura paint on large sheets of shiny paper.

Yeah, some of the prompts they really have fun with, and I think this was one of them. As you will notice, I didn't post Ti'Loup's effort. He made his brother seriously scary (not a portrait at all, rather a monster); so while he may have had fun, I told him to apply himself more before I would share it. :P

lol... sounds like you have quite the creative little rebel on your hands.

Yeah, he can create as rebelliously as he wants, but I will continue encourage him to learn by doing other things that push him a bit. I don't want to take the fun out of it or force teaching on him, but I still want to expose him to different ideas. :P
