Hurricane Bondo died down and gave us only rain and a bit of wind. Christmas day, the sky was too overcast for us to risk going to a beach for a picnic, so we went to B & N's house (J's cousin and girlfriend) because a) they have a covered terrace with a nice view of the lagoon and b) they are in France and Spain, respectively, for the holidays.

We had a nice bbq: grilled prawn and lobster tails on a bed of arugula and baby spinach, coal-baked eggplants stuffed with feta, and grilled mangoes and pineapple basted with ginger butter. (I didn't particularly care for the mango. It wasn't bad, but it made me think of pumpkin, and I didn't mean to be eating pumpkin at that particular moment.)

J hurt his back at work a few days ago, so he wasn't up to much, but we went to the beach later on, and I swam while he relaxed on the sand.

VoilĂ , our first Christmas in the tropics. Call me nuts, but I would have preferred the cold.

You're crazy. I'm up in Seattle for Christmas looking at how much warmer it is back home in California and feel just that much colder as a result... Oh well.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

What are friends for, if not constant criticism? Um. JK -- honest. :)

Glad to hear you were spared by Bondo! (And are you really that OK with J having a girlfriend who lives with his cousin?) ;-)

After re-reading that, I was sure someone would call me on it. hehe

:-) That's what you get for hanging out with writers!

(And I don't like warm Christmases either... This year was really, really mild, and I much prefer the bitter cold.)

It is amazing how much our feelings for and about the season are tied to the weather. For some, my friend in Oz for example, no thoughts of cold are tied to Christmas and it is strange for her that all the songs speak of snow and so on...

My eyebrows went up, too, and I giggled.

Glad you are ok!

It is odd about the weather and Christmas. Think how interesting it would be if Christmas were attached to the season, so that it happens at the snowiest, coldest time of year rather than at a particular date. If you flew around, you could have lots of celebrations in one year.

and you could go some places that would never have Christmas! How sad.

True.

The non-Christians might not mind.

I would agree except I think that people have done a pretty good job of leaving Christ out of Christmas already.
