My head *hurts* with trying to figure out how to tackle this draft. Before I sat down to read it, I thought I had the solution for fixing it down pat. Now I'm not so sure it is going to work. Another idea is niggling at my brain, but pulling it off means Skill, and I don't know if I have it.

Great quote! Sounds like something they'd stick on a page in a diary or somewhere. But I'm not sure I agree that "headache" is always the best word to describe our writerly concern over goings on in our fictional worlds. In my experience my head doesn't so much hurt as buzz and swirl.

I do like your term "writerly concern" though. That concern, that desire to get things just so, is one of the things I find so passionate about writing. I guess I like making my head hurt. >:-}
