I'm driving [profile] mana_trinicrazy with my doubts. As he says, TTD is done. Let it go; trust the critters to tell you what they think, and move on to the next story.

So, that's what I'm trying to do, especially since I want to do the second draft (from scratch) of To Be Undone (TBU) for [profile] novel_in_90, (2nd round begins June 1st, folks).  The problem is that I haven't yet had time to rekindle my passion for the idea behind TBU. I know that my interest in a project tends to grow the longer I'm involved in it (and I can't seem to maintain excitement for two novel-length projects at one time) , but do any of you have any ideas or techniques for jumpstarting the passion, for reawakening that first burst of inspiration?

I keep a collage frame with "cover illustrations" for all of my galactic empire novels over my computer. When I want to work on a novel I look at the picture and imagine that I hold in my hands a book with this cover, and of course it's a wonderful book, and then I imagine reading, and then I just have to transcribe what I read...

At least that's how it's supposed to work. But I don't think I have the right cover for "Sun Dog," my current project.

I've actually thought about doing artwork or finding people that fit my characters in my mind and trying that to make them come alive for me. I like the idea of designing a cover. Haven't tried that one before.

I've always found that when I can't find that passion, writing one of those fun scenes always brings it back.

What is a fun scene depends, just is fun to write.

*nods* This is kind of a dark work, so fun in the ha-ha sense doesn't apply, but I could definitely rewrite one of the parts that has high appeal.

Nope. Am going through the same not-love with my current WIP. :P Let me know if you figure it out.

Is it Quartz that is giving you fits?

Yeah. It's just more complex than either of my other novels and I'm having a hard time keeping all the threads straight. I'm writing through all the angst and indecision and all of that, though. I can fix a broken draft a lot more easily than a nonexistent one. :D

That's the right attitude!

Research. If any'd needed, reading up on Stuff gets the mental wheels whirring again for me. Or writing scenes, as someone else suggested.

hehe. In the case of this novel, probably "organizing" the research findings is what I need to do. I've been collecting stuff for years and now I have files full of contradictory things.
