Despite the simplicity of the design I came up with, my wrists weren't very happy with the papercutting. I wasn't thinking about my tendonitis but about my very dull cutter blade when I decided to keep my image simple, and I'm glad I didn't try for anything more delicate.

The logistics of where to cut and what to keep were quite entertaining, and I might like to try more of this technique.* However, I won't be doing so until I get the proper tools for it, including paper that lends itself to cleaner cutting that what I used.

* Note to self: Make sure to do really big images and keep tiny, painstaking cuts to a minimum.
I need to start thinking about editing my story (because that may change my illustration list). I would like to have a couple of beta readers to help me with that. I'll go into more detail with those who are interested. If you'd like to volunteer, you can email me or send me a private message.  Thanks in advance.

You really never cease to amaze me. This is fabulous. May I reblog it? (I know you so far have always said yes, but I always want to ask.)

Wow, that's amazing! I don't see how you papercut something so intricate. It's beautiful.

Oh man, if you think this is intricate, check out this guy's work: http://www.misterrob.co.uk/?page_id=1236

People are sooooooooooo talented! I love how creative our species is. :D

How the heck could anyone manage something with such tiny details? That's astounding!

I know, right!? He works with really big paper (usually more than a meter across), but still. Mind-boggling.

And I meant to add that some of hers are hand-sized--but nothing I've seen is much larger than 18x24, and most are smaller.

I love papercutting! (Not that I do any beyond snowflakes, but I do love them.) It's amazing how few cuts create the impression of a real animal.

It is such a versatile art. I'd really love to do more of it. But that is my problem: I always want to do so much. :-

This donkey looks to me adventurous and not too concerned about obstacles, taking life as it comes. Could be male or female.

In a book, I think this style of illustration would look a lot like woodcuts.

I thought the same about woodcuts, and it is a technique I would dearly love to try. Not too easy to do, though, and definitely time consuming. I may give stamps a whirl, though.

Here via asakiyume, because I love donkeys and I've been very fond of the two of your donkey artworks that she shared on tumblr. I'm impressed that this papercutting is from construction paper--not known for its malleability. Well done!

Hello, hello.

Yeah, wanted dark paper and the only thing on hand was my daughter's construction paper. Construction paper + dull blade = not my brightest idea. :P

Honestly? You're amazing, Miqa. This whole project is nothing short of creative, adventurous, daring, awesome, and fun!

This is a children's story, yes? I'd be happy to beta-read it and give you my "parent of three, who's done a ton of reading aloud" perspective. :D

Thanks, Rabia, for both the compliment and the offer. I'll email you tomorrow. Now I must head to bed!

Oh, and I'm going to answer those comments about the desert. Promise. :P
