So, an oil painting in order to feel accomplished, not like an utter hack...

Yeah, look under the cut to see how that worked out for me.

I worked on my pyramids and was quite happy with how much fun I was having. But then J came along and, quite rightly and quite honestly, said, "It is a good reproduction but you need to take it a step beyond."

So, I tried. And didn't like it. And tried something else. Didn't like it either. In fact, I hated it with white-hot hate.

Instead if keeping on, I decided to scratch it all. That is exactly what I did. I took my paint knife and scraped off all the paint. The subject was never interesting enough to begin with. Nothing was special about the light or what I was achieving, so:

(this image isn't showing up for [livejournal.com profile] frigg, so it might not show up for others. Not to worry, it is only a blank canvas. You aren't missing me making a further fool of myself. :P )
I applied primer and will try something else.

Stay tuned.

Wow, J is not going to let you get away with anything!

I hope the next one is more satisfying for you.

--I feel as if the lack of match-up between you and your current environs isn't helping much. I feel as if a whole lot of your psychic energy probably goes into trying to stay balanced and whole in a situation that, if you weren't doing that, would make you unhappy.

ETA: And I feel like my comment here doesn't make sense maybe. What I mean is, I get the feeling that you're under a lot of assault from your environment, and that that's making it hard for you to create, basically.

I liked the pyramid pic, but if had to go, it had to go.

C is my worst critic. Sometimes when something has been submitted, I have to ask him not to comment because it's too late, I cannot change anything, and I'll just get upset. :p

PS. I can suddenly see the second pic. Not sure what was up before.

I did too--I liked the wildness of the sky and the stillness of the pyramids.

But sometimes you do just want a clean slate.

Ouch! I liked the stark-shadowed pyramids and the windy-looking sky and the sand with its strange, half-seen shapes.

But I appreciate asakiyume's comment. Maybe your struggle with the oil painting is in some way a reflection of Egypt's struggle with its government.

Wow, I didn't even know you could do that with oil paintings. And you obviously have much higher creative standards than me!

Me too. Your painting contained a germ of brilliance.
