We signed a rental contract today for a new apartment!

We can begin moving Nov 15 and will keep our current flat until Dec 1, so we'll be able to take our time with it.

The future flat is much smaller and a bit rundown, but! it has a garden!  WOOT!  I predict a much healthier, happier time here now that I'll be able to go barefoot on the grass every day.:D

And all for 100 LE cheaper than we are paying now.

Oh, so do I; so do I! Who knows what kind of nuisances we'll encounter over there, but the garden will help so much. And there is a 3rd bedroom, which will be used as a crafting/creating space...another positive point. :)

Happy news, indeed. The only "sad" thing is that the flat is still in Cairo, so: still susceptible to pollution. Take today, for instance (and many days these past two weeks): We couldn't be outside, even if we were in the other place, because the air is so horrid and full of smoke. Tis the season for burning rice chaff.* Which I believe is supposed to be against the law. :-/ People (scientists, environmentalists...) have tried convincing the farmers that it is better to compost/use the chaff, but no. No changing tradition.

_________
* Oddly enough, to me it doesn't smell like burning organic matter; it reeks of plastic and trash. I've been assured several times, however, that is truly from rice chaff.

Heh, maybe "rice chaff" is everyone's euphemism for burning industrial rubbish. Or maybe it's just one of those weird things where an organic things smells truly awful when burnt...
