I seem to be on a crochet kick these days.  This is mostly motivated by the fact that it is cooooooooold here.  Look, we had snow:

This is the valley beneath our apartment building. Those shacks are, I believe, where people gather their olives and other produce that they farm on the terraced hillside.*  
 
Because of how nippy it is, even in the flat, I wear my crocheted hat and cowl.  But the cowl, made back in France with the idea that Lebanon would not be as cold, was too loose and "airy." 

So a new scarf was in order.  This one is even airier than my cowl, but because it is so long and wide, it stacks up nice and warm and will be more versatile as the weather shifts.  I had already made a version of it for my mother-in-law the Christmas before we left Egypt, so I knew how it would work out and how cozy it would be with the right yarn:

My hands are always freezing, too, so I made myself a pair of fingerless mitts. Now only my fingertips are popsicle-like.

The beginnings:

As you can see on the finished mitts, I went back and put a lighter color on the body of one to match the other.  Working with variegated yarn and trying to get the colors to match up is a bit tricky, but I think it turned out all right:

Snow one moment and rainbows the next.  From the living room window:

 

See how you can barely see the city under the bow through all that rain?

And a slightly wider (and sunnier) view a couple of minutes later from the kitchen:

* We have been for a walk on the terraced hillside down there and I want to go back to get some photos, but with the torrential rains we have been having, that is not a good idea at the moment.

The rainbow! How magnificent! And I really love the soft, warm colors of your fingerless gloves. *May they keep your hands warm*

So all those trees by the shacks are olive trees? You'll have to take a walk down there in fruiting season!

My mitts are wonderful. Sprout regularly steals them from me, so I will have to make her a pair. :P

No, not all of the trees are olive. There are lots of oak, too, some fig trees, some ficus, some I can't identify yet. We went for a walk today and I took some photos, which I hope to share soon.

It is my pleasure. It is a joy and a nice walk down memory lane when I go back over old entries, so I really want to do a better job of updating my journal.
